The world will be watching next summer as shortboard surfing, karate, skateboarding, sport climbing and baseball join for the first time, or return to the Olympics. Other sports like kayaking are adding three women’s event while eliminating three men’s.

From intimate venues to large performance halls, many places in the Sierra offer the chance to see a show. As a reformed actress (the highlight of my theatrical career included a performance as Orphan No. 76 during my high school’s production of the musical, Annie), I’m always keen to see a show or film. Some are weather reliant and only available in late spring, so confirm they’re available before trekking out.
