18-holes and so much more
Get in some beautiful long drives and picturesque putting on the many award-winning golf courses in the area. Carson Valley Golf Course flanks the Carson River and is dotted with massive Cottonwood trees. Head to Genoa Lakes Golf Club for two championship courses — one with lake views and the other amid ranchland. Bring the whole family to Sunridge Golf & Recreations where you can golf, shoot, throw and bounce the day away.
On the water
There’s nothing quite like the crystal clear waters of Lake Tahoe. Sure, you can take a dip in the cool Alpine lake, but for the chance to really explore all that is Big Blue you have to board a vessel. There are many ways to buoy upon the massive body of water, including on a clear kayak from Clearly Tahoe. Imagine paddling along the shore as the water world below is in plain view.
Get up close and personal with the lake dwellers on a fishing charter with Tahoe Sport Fishing. Or, feel the rush of paddle wheeler power aboard a cruise on the M.S. Dixie II departing Zephyr Cove Resort multiple times per day.
In the wild
With seemingly endless trails and treks in Carson Valley and Tahoe South, you can’t go wrong spending a few hours hiking, biking, cross-country skiing or snowshoeing around. While every local has their favorite spot, a few sure bets for amazing views and wildlife peeping are the Castle Rock Loop and Tahoe Rim Trails in Lake Tahoe, and Genoa Canyon Trailhead and Jobs Peak Ranch Trailhead in Carson Valley. From beginning to novice paths, these areas are the perfect destination to get outdoors no matter your skill level.
Spend some time among livestock at Dangberg Home Ranch Historic Farm where you can take a docent-led tour of the property, enjoy stunning panoramas of Jobs Peak from the park’s back lawn, visit the museum gift shop and explore the way things used to be. Or, take a nice carriage ride with Clydesdale power. Sleigh & Carriage Rides at Lake Tahoe has been pulling folks around and exploring the area since 1967.
If you’re up for a thrilling mountain escape or something a bit more low key in the desert, Carson Valley and Lake Tahoe are the areas for you. Get the Sierra Safety Trail pass for unlimited access to the great, exciting experiences that await and learn more about the one-of-a-kind activities at your fingertips. Happy adventuring!
