MacDuff's Public House

For more than a decade, MacDuff’s Public House has served hearty and authentic pub fare in a fun and friendly atmosphere.

The secret to their success — and what turns locals and visitors into regulars — is the quality and quantity of the food and their excellent service.

Tucked down a quiet side street just blocks from the lake, it’s the perfect place to go after a day of adventuring or for a casual catch-up.

It’s everything you would expect in a great pub — a warm and welcoming space where you can enjoy delicious food and drinks with great service.

The secret to their success — and what turns locals and visitors into regulars — is the quality and quantity of the food and their excellent service.

Portion sizes are huge, plus just about everything is made fresh, using the highest quality ingredients. The dishes are all well-executed and full of flavor. As a result, the food will challenge your expectations of pub food.

Their buttermilk fried calamari was a standout with thick and tender chunks of lightly battered squid paired perfectly with a zesty cocktail sauce and tartar sauce with capers and red onions.

The artichoke and spinach dip is rich and complex, while the chicken nuggets are juicy and tender alongside a wide variety of homemade sauces.

Looking for something to warm you up on a cold day? Their French onion soup comes with oodles of gooey cheese while their New England clam chowder in a bread bowl eats like a meal.

Salads are also available for those looking for lighter fare, though they are still large enough to share. The beet salad in particular is a delightful contrast of tastes and textures that work really well together.

You might already be full from the appetizers, but trust me when I say you’ll want to order a few main courses to share.

Their savory pies are the definition of comfort food goodness — a hearty filling of veggies and fresh ground lamb, fresh ground beef or chicken topped with a cheesy and creamy potato crust or flaky puff pastry.

The steak and Guinness stew, with thick chunks of beef and vegetables, will wrap you up in a blanket of warmth and flavor. Brined and slow-cooked for hours, the corned beef and cabbage are tender and tasty.

For a real treat, get the fish and chips, enjoy two large pieces of flakey and lightly battered haddock fried to perfection and served with a large mound of well-seasoned and crispy fries.

You can even bring in your fresh catch to be cooked three ways. Rounding out the menu is a good selection of wood-fired pizzas, burgers and sandwiches.

Just be sure to save some room for dessert. There’s only one item, a bread pudding, which tells you how good it is.

Rich and decadent, it’s drenched in a caramel bourbon sauce and topped with two generous scoops of vanilla ice cream (Insider tip: Extra toppings are available.).

MacDuff’s in South Lake Tahoe features two full bars serving a well-rounded selection of draft and bottled beer, wine and cocktails, and multiple dining areas, including a dog-friendly outdoor garden patio complete with transparent enclosed greenhouse pods.

This is the perfect place to bring friends, family, a big party, or even a date to enjoy great food and drinks in great company. Just don’t forget your appetite.
