If you’re anything like me, I like options … especially when it comes to braving the wintry air outdoors. Adding a layer, or two, is one of the best ways to ensure an enjoyable day on the mountain. This season, as you’re out trekking down the snow-lined trails of Tahoe and beyond, be sure to keep those body temperatures comfortable with clothing and gear from some of our favorite local purveyors.
Patagonia has an abounding presence in the Sierra. With several shops, a warehouse and service center, and their newish Patagonia Outlet in downtown Reno, you can find a whole slew of thermal products lining the shelves throughout the region. The Capilene Baselayer are versatile next-to-skin performance knits that will help you stay warm. With cuts, styles and fabrics tailored for specific exertion levels and desired warmth, the shirts and bottoms are a sure bet to beat the cold. patagonia.com

For the guys, the Volcom Freaking Show Chino Pant embodies the brand’s famous khaki style with extra material and mesh vents. tahoepowderhouse.com
