Adventures are grand throughout Nevada’s Douglas County. Encompassing the expansive, exquisite Carson Valley and Tahoe’s Nevada side, this area has so much to offer in the outdoor realm.

Have you ever skied, played golf, then got out on the water in one weekend, or even a single day? Here, you can.

Here’s how to plan a trifecta adventure from water, to land, and on snow, through the region while keeping healthy and socially distant.

Stunning, vast outdoor expanses teeming with wildlife beckon visitors to Sierra Safely. Countless trails invite exploration. Lake Tahoe’s glistening waters are ripe for excursions, and year-round golf courses tempt those seeking to perfect their swing.

Here’s how to plan a trifecta adventure from water, to land, and on snow, through the region while keeping healthy and socially distant.

Day One:

Check in to the newly remodeled Holiday Inn Express and Suites in Minden. Amenity-filled guest rooms feature high-speed internet, in-room coffee makers, refrigerators, microwaves and more, along with comfortable beds to help you drift into dreams of your fun-filled day. Nearby are multiple delicious places to dine, many with menu items that pay tribute to the area using locally sourced ingredients and recipes passed down for generations.

Afterwards, take a picturesque drive to Lake Tahoe’s Zephyr Cove Resort. Revel in the historic resort’s scenic grounds, then hop on the M.S. Dixie paddlewheel boat for an unforgettable sunset dinner cruise to Emerald Bay.

Watch Tahoe’s colorful evening kaleidoscope come to life as the sky’s hues vibrantly shift and the sun cascades into the lapping waves … right from the center of it all. Utterly blissed out, head back to your room.

Day Two:

Up and at ‘em as you head to Heavenly’s Stagecoach lift on the Nevada side. Make reservations in advance to hop on the hills strapped with your skis or snowboard. Feel as if you were floated (by ski lift) into an ethereal snow-covered paradise with epic views as far as you can see.

Once the adrenalin runs out – if it does – book an afternoon tee time at the Carson Valley Golf Course. Open year-round, their verdant fairways surrounded by towering trees and snowy Sierra peaks are the perfect place to unwind after a full day on the slopes.

Phew, you must be exhausted, what a fabulously full day! On to the next …

Day Three:

Checking out is bittersweet, but you already spoke to the front desk about booking a repeat visit sooner than later. There’s so much more to explore in Douglas County!

It’s bright and early, and you’re ready for the next outing. Meet your guide for the wildlife tour of the region that you scheduled in the lobby, fuel up a bit on the breakfast buffet, and head out to learn about and spot some wild Nevada mustangs. Along the way, you may also encounter other animals in their natural habitat, from bears and deer to captivating, carnivorous cats. From a safe distance, of course. This trip is all about traveling through the Sierra Safely, after all.

Inspired by seeing these majestic free-ranging beasts in all of their gorgeous glory, break out your camera once again for the next portion of the tour: a photographic tour of area raptors and birds of prey that inhabit the local ranches which aren’t open to the public. Keep an eye out for the Bald Eagles that love these lands.

After your animal adventure, you’re in no hurry to get home. You’ve simply had too much fun. So onwards with your mission: head back to Tahoe for an exhilarating fishing expedition with Tahoe Sport Fishing. Catch Kokanee salmon or some hefty lake trout and bring home a prize.

Finally, complete your getaway by wandering the region’s historic towns and quaint shops, dine on some delicious local fare, sip on a brew crafted just down the road and joyfully begin to plan your next visit to enchanting Douglas County.
