Nevada Discovery Ride Hits the Trail Again
June 12 @ 9:00 am - 10:00 am
Come cheer in the Nevada Discovery Ride at the end of the trail on Stephanie Way, Carson City at approximately 9am.
A Nevada woman is preparing to see the state as few others do. On May 1, Samantha Szesciorka will begin a solo journey across Nevada with her horse, Sage, and dog, Juniper. The trio will set out from Las Vegas and travel to Carson City on a 45-day, 550-mile route across mountains and deserts, ghost towns, state parks, and other historic sites.
This is the team’s third long-distance and slow-speed exploration of Nevada. Samantha and her horse Sage previously rode 1,100 miles around Nevada in 2016 and 500 miles across the state in 2013. The mission of the Nevada Discovery Ride is to promote wild horse adoption while highlighting Nevada and public lands. The 2021 ride will also celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Wild Free-Roaming Horse & Burro Act.
The team’s adventures have attracted followers from around the world thanks, in part, to TikTok and Instagram where Samantha documents ride preparations. During this year’s ride, Samantha will post updates from the trail to the ride website and social media channels.
The 2021 Nevada Discovery Ride is sponsored by the Bureau of Land Management, Nevada State Parks, Backcountry Horsemen of America – Bristlecone Chapter, Southern Nevada Conservancy, and others.
Samantha Szesciorka is a member of the Long Riders’ Guild, an international association of equestrian explorers. She is the assistant curator of the Wilbur D. May Museum in Reno and the Nevada State Coordinator for the American Discovery Trail. She is also a former journalist and US Army Veteran. Her horse, Sage, is a formerly wild mustang from Nevada, and her dog, Juniper, is a scrappy ranch dog. For more information, visit www.NevadaDiscoveryRide.com.
