Fresh flavors and a taste of the Mediterranean at Artemis

Mediterranean-inspired cuisine in Tahoe

For delicious Greek and modern Mediterranean-inspired cuisine in Tahoe, there’s really only one name you need to know — Artemis.

What Artemis does so incredibly well is their rich, balanced flavors, which is especially evident in their many incredible sauces.

Located at Ski Run Marina, just steps from the lake, Artemis Lakefront Café offers indoor and outdoor dining with picturesque lake views and a lively, yet casual, atmosphere.

Just down the road, the original Artemis Mediterranean Grill serves up a similar menu in a relaxed and casual space. What they both have in common is really good food.

What Artemis does so incredibly well is their rich, balanced flavors, which is especially evident in their many incredible sauces.

The Artemis dipping sauce, which comes with their fries, is pure magic. I’m not normally a fries person, but here, I not only get the fries instead of a salad as my side, but I will also get an extra order to go.

Sprinkled with a special house-made Cajun-inspired seasoning blend, the fries are just the right amount of crunch and flavor.

And after that first dip in the Artemis sauce, you might just order another serving of fries with extra sauce. You’ll probably want to buy some of their special house seasoning to take with you.

There’s more to Artemis than just their fries, though. The mezze platter is big enough to share and a great way to sample several classics, like hummus, babba ghanoush, falafel, and a really bright and fresh tabbouleh.

The flash-fried calamari is light and airy, while the spanakopita has the perfect proportion of spinach, feta and crunchy phyllo. Don’t miss their Greek lettuce wraps.

The spicy ground chicken with aromatic vegetables is just bursting with flavor—sweet and tart with a kick, with just the right amount of feta and a mint vinaigrette that you almost want to drink.

Their pitas and gyros are the stars of the show. The grilled shrimp pita comes with a filling portion of firm jumbo shrimp, veggies and their amazing Artemis sauce, while the roast duck gyro is rich, with a complex depth from the pomegranate glaze.

The lamb gyro is a true classic, piled high with juicy and tender rotisserie gyro meat, homemade tzaziki, tomato and onion. Pro tip — wrap a few fries dipped in Artemis sauce in your gyro for a truly authentic Greek gyro experience. You can thank me later.

Their entrees are large and ideal for dinner or for sharing. We ordered the souvlaki plate, and the beef kebabs were well seasoned and tender, and paired perfectly with the skordalia garlic sauce — you may also want to get an extra serving of this traditional Greek garlic and pureed potato sauce.

Fish fans will love their mahi-mahi, which you can enjoy beer battered or grilled; both the fish and chips and grilled entree with caper sauce are solid options.

For something rich and decadent, try their gnocchi with gorgonzola cream sauce and blackened chicken. They also offer a good selection of gluten-free, vegetarian and vegan options.

Not only is the food delicious, but the ambiance and views at Artemis Lakefront can’t be beaten. For a real treat, grab a table on their heated outdoor patio, and sip on a selection from a full cocktail bar as you watch the sunset over Lake Tahoe.

Everything is prepared in-house, from scratch, daily, using fresh, locally produced, organic and free-range ingredients, and you can really taste the difference.

The Mediterranean mojito is fresh and perfect on a summer day while the Artemis margarita packs a serious punch. And if you need a pick me up, they’ve got an espresso bar as well. Artemis Lakefront also offers breakfast and I highly recommend their baklava French toast.

Combine that with the complex, balanced flavor profiles, and perfectly executed dishes, and it’s easy to see why Artemis is a local and visitor favorite for fresh and flavorful Greek and Mediterranean-inspired cuisine in Tahoe.
