Outdoor dining and curbside in these unconventional times.
Patio Dining in Reno Tahoe
Outdoor Dining and Patio Dining in Reno Tahoe

By Rae Matthews, Elevation Eats

Dining dilemmas have been no small thing these past few months. Restaurateurs are torn between safe service for themselves and their customers and, well, staying in business. So how have some of our favorite eats persevered through these tough times? Part inspiration, part perspiration, and whole lot of take-out. Since we’ve all got to eat, here are the places to dine out during apocalypse 2020.

Fresh air al fresco

Indoor dining may not always be an option (or something you’re comfortable with), so we recommend breathing in the fresh Reno/Tahoe air by dining al fresco. Here are some of the best patios to choose from.

Artemis Mediterranean Grill serves Greek fair at two locations in South Lake Tahoe, both with patios, and the Ski Run location is right by the marina. Also in South Lake Tahoe, the Scottish pub, Macduff’s Public House has not only a large outdoor patio but an outdoor bar as well. And if you cross the metaphorical Giant’s Causeway to the Irish pub, McP’s Taphouse Grill, you’ll find a huge patio overlooking the California state border — and, get ready, because you may just be serenaded by a Scottish bagpiper. (On the Irish side? We know. Just roll with it.) Fox and Hound boasts the highest elevation on this list. Situated at the top of Kingsbury Grade, their deck is nestled next to the Heavenly mountain top. Speaking of views and true to its name, Wild River Grille in Reno has a large patio astride the Truckee River, where you can dine to the sound of rapids. If you would just rather handle your own food, check out Pignic Pub & Patio in Reno, where you can pack in a meal, use their barbecues, lounge on their patio, and enjoy their beer. It’s like going to friend’s house. artemismediterraneangrill.com, macduffspub.com, mcpstahoe.net, foxandhoundtahoe.com, wildrivergrille.com, pignicpubandpatio.com

Kick it to the curb

If staying secluded is more your speed, then here are great places to grab and go.

When is a fresh deli sandwich ever not a good idea? Yosh’s Deli provides some of the best sandwiches in Reno, and they already have this to-go thing dialed. Also in Reno, Twisted Fork has made safety a top priority. They offer both great Americana cuisine and peace of mind. Mangia Tutto Pizzeria e Ristorante in Carson has jumped on the GrubHub train, making way for both takeout and delivery of their Chicago-style pizza. And for some of the best pizza in South Lake Tahoe, Lake Tahoe AleWorX’s location at “the Y” has the best of both worlds, a large patio and curbside pick-up. And finally, a new addition to the South Lake Tahoe food scene, Frescana Mexican Bistro, whose cheeky motto is “annoyingly fresh,” brings some of the best Mexican food around to the curb. yoshsdeli.com, twistedforkreno.com, mangiatuttopizzeria.com, laketahoealeworx.com, frescanalaketahoe.com

Remember, safety is always a priority, and no one wants to catch “the ‘rona.” Please show your support while respecting the safety precautions that restaurants ask of you. We can all get through this together!
